Great people, great minds and gardens

Several great Americans come to mind.  Thomas Jefferson and George Washington both displayed a skillfull sense of design and knowledge of plant materials.  Elite home owners in Colonial Williamsburg layed out gardens with an English formality and a self sufficient style .

"No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden.  I am still devoted to the garden.  But though an old man,  I am but a young gardener."  Thomas Jefferson
